Bethany Spitzer

Bethany came to the Pacific Northwest 9 years ago to complete a Masters degree in Leadership for Sustainability Education at Portland State University and like many before her, she fell in love with the area and decided to make it her home. After completing her Masters, Bethany began her career in informal STEM education. The early years of her career were spent learning the frameworks and best practices for creating engaging and accessible STEM programming, which is the backbone of her continuing work in informal STEM education.

One of the highlights of Bethany’s career so far has been redesigning aviation summer camp curriculum with an awareness of students with disabilities. Due to the redesign, a student who uses a wheelchair was able to participate in a field trip to the Portland International Airport Control tower, as well as take a discovery flight with her fellow campers. Bethany believes that everyone has their own unique story to tell, and it is her job and privilege to support them in telling it.
