Mark your calendars for August 5th
We have a special treat for all our young aviators and STEAM enthusiasts! The reigning Miss United States, Lily K. Donaldson, will be visiting The Education Center on Pearson Field!
About Lily:
Lily is not only a passionate advocate for STEM and Arts Education, but she also hails from Memphis, Tennessee, and is a first-generation college student. Her academic journey includes a B.S. in Computer Science, an M.S. in Lighting, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Architectural Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With an impressive background, Lily has previously worked as a software developer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the NASA DC Space Grant Consortium. Stemming from her personal experience attending Title 1 schools with underserved arts and science programs, Lily founded a nonprofit organization called Art Technically, based in Memphis, Tennessee, that is dedicated to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and Arts education for disadvantaged students to bridge the gap in educational opportunities. They provide free STEM and Arts workshops to disadvantaged K-12 students, ensuring that they have access to invaluable learning experiences. Additionally, the organization offers free STEM and STEAM books, sparking curiosity and excitement for the world of science and creativity.
During her visit to Airway Science, Lily will share her remarkable journey and the impact of science and educational outreach for disadvantaged students. Join us at 11:00 am for a captivating STEAM story time, where Lily will read “Rosie Revere, Engineer,” followed by an autograph signing session and opportunities to interact with Lily.
This is a unique opportunity to be motivated by Lily’s passion, achievements, and dedication to empowering youth in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. It’s a chance to create lasting memories with the reigning Miss United States herself!
Join us on August 5th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at The Education Center on Pearson Field for an exciting morning filled with inspiration, joy, and the magic of STEAM.
As always, registration is not required, but adults must accompany children throughout the hangar to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
