March is Women’s History Month, and it’s an opportunity to celebrate and honor the many contributions women have made to society. In particular, it’s a time to recognize the achievements of women in STEAM fields – science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Despite the progress made in recent years, women remain underrepresented in these fields. Women continue to face significant barriers in accessing education and employment opportunities, and gender bias and discrimination remain challenging.
However, women have been making significant contributions to STEAM fields throughout history, often overcoming great obstacles to do so. This Women’s History Month, let’s take a moment to celebrate and learn from some of these incredible women.
and beyond.

One of the most notable women in STEAM fields is Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist who was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Curie made groundbreaking discoveries in radioactivity, including the discovery of two new elements, polonium and radium.
Another notable woman in STEAM is Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who worked for NASA during the Space Race. Johnson’s calculations were critical to the success of the first crewed spaceflights, including the Apollo 11 mission that put astronauts on the moon.

There are also many contemporary women making significant contributions to STEAM fields. For example, Dr. Fei-Fei Li is a computer scientist and the founder of the AI4ALL Foundation, which is dedicated to increasing diversity and inclusion in the field of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Ayanna Howard is another contemporary woman in STEAM fields who has made significant contributions. Howard is a roboticist and the Dean of the College of Engineering at Ohio State University. She has also been recognized for her work on assistive technologies for children with disabilities

These are just a few examples of the many women who have made significant contributions to STEAM fields throughout history. This Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate and recognize the achievements of women in STEAM, and let’s continue to work towards greater gender equality in these fields.
